Lavinia Branca Snyder is a New York City based writer, photographer and digital artist.
She began taking photographs and laying
out albums at the age of 11.
Her professional career in the field began as a designer
of illustrated
photographic books in the early eighties. She began experimenting with digital images in the early nineties, developing the
concept for three series of children’s books that would combine Lavinia's photographs with hand drawn characters. To
date she has written and illustrated 12 children's books under the imprint of Lavinia's World. She also designed a plush toy
collection: The Ooshes.
In 2005, Lavinia's World was honored with Creative Child Magazine's Preferred Choice Award
in the Character and Book category. Also in 2005, Lavinia's cartoon won a place as a finalist in the Mipcom Jr. License Competition
at Cannes.
In
2006 her book was named Book of the year by Creative Child Magazine.
In 2007 Lavinia started focusing on her art images and
began submitting her work to art competitions and producing pieces to be exhibited.
In 2007, her photographs of Nazca were
selected for the 9th Annual Abstraction Juried Online exhibition for the Upstream People Gallery (with Special Recognition).
Also
in 2007, two digital art collage pieces titled "V" and Bad & Forth were chosen for the American
Juried Art Salons Online Fall-Winter 2007 Exhibition.
In 2008 she also exhibited “V” and Rock Me in Digital Long Islands National Juried
Group Exhibition at the Mills Pond House Gallery in St. James N.Y.
In 2008, her photograph of Nazca titled "Big" was
chosen for a group exhibition at the Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery, at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York.
In 2010 her large scale images “Lips”
were displayed at Villa Miani in Rome for a private event.
Born in Rome, Italy, Lavinia earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts at Sarah Lawrence College,
followed by graduate studies in History at Columbia University.
